Odds are the historical events won't get updated much unless we pay, the military system won't get enhanced to a barebone level unless we pay, and all we'll really have in the end is a far-too expensive sandbox that happens to start in 1836, where Britain is secretly one of the weakest nations if a player isn't on it due to devolved colonies, where colonial management is terrible, where half the recommended hegemon nations cannot do the hegemon objectives as they can't even trigger the missions permanently. But overall reviews are still barely tipping past 66%. Recent reviews aren't as bad since all the diehard veterans already worked out it's crap and left their say early-on. It is lower than people claim and is dropping. People saying Vic 3 playercount is stabilizing at 10k-15k, but here we are in the evening in Europe, americans getting off work more and more, and it's sitting in the 8k-9k range. Let's not forget that vicky 3 did go for dumbed-down mechanics where possible, where sliders were considered too scary and complicated so we get simplified buttons that minimize flexibility wherever possible. The combat system is lackluster if I'm putting it mildly, you can't even stockpile armaments nevermind other goods, we can't even toggle off annoying/spammy notifications (Almost like Paradox solved that issue 20 years ago by letting us customize notifications.), and the game runs terribly even on high-end CPUs like a 12700k/13700k when you reach late-game. Vicky 2 fans are either back on vicky 2 or just not playing. There's a severe shortage of historical events, those that exist are usually poorly written out (Opium wars have no purpose, when in reality it was to stop China hoarding silver, the game refuses to even hint at why, and of course China can import which it would never do in 1836 as it had a strict one-way trade policy of export only). Victoria 3 went out of its way to defy the series not enhance it or just fine-tune it. However Vicky 3 clearly has retained zero of the following of the existing series. A century-spanning campaign charges players with strategically managing the economic, civil, religious and military arms of their empire. Is vicky 3 as disastrous as imperator? maybe not.
